Acetabulum joint

The acetabulum is the deep, cup-shaped structure that encloses the head of the femur at the hip joint (Fig. 9.4). It is interesting to note that the acetabulum is formed by a combination of all three bones of the pelvis: the ilium, pubis, and ischium The hip joint, or acetabulum, is responsible for many movements including walking, bending and crouching. It is a ball and socket joint , with the femur (top of the leg bone) sitting inside the acetabulum (hip socket) Höftledsgrop (latin: acetabulum) är, i människans skelett, höftbenets konkava ledyta. Den sitter lateralt i bäckenet och leder mot lårbenets ledkula, lårbenshuvudet (caput femoris). Höftledsgropen är formad som en djup skål som är riktad nedåt, lateralt och framåt

Acetabulum - an overview ScienceDirect Topic

The acetabulum is the socket of the ball-and-socket hip joint. In a healthy hip, the ball fits securely inside the socket and rotates easily within the smooth cartilage lining. The bone surfaces of the ball and socket are covered with articular cartilage—a smooth, slippery substance that protects and cushions the bones and enables them to move easily The acetabulum (plural: acetabula) is the large cup-shaped cavity on the anterolateral aspect of the pelvis that articulates with the femoral head to form the hip joint The acetabulum is the socket of the ball-and-socket hip joint. The top of the thigh bone (femur) forms the ball, and the socket (acetabulum) is part of the pelvic bone. Several bones join together to form the round pelvis: the ilium, the ischium, and the pubis

The ball of the hip joint is made by the femoral head while the socket is formed by the acetabulum. The Acetabulum is a deep, circular socket formed on the outer edge of the pelvis by the union of three bones: ilium, ischium and pubis. The lower part of the ilium is attached by the pubis while the ischium is considerably behind the pubis Acetabular cup . Not everyone who receives a hip prosthesis needs to know every small detail of his or her prosthesis but the cup that commonly is placed in the acetabulum actually forms half of the prosthesis and does therefore deserve a little more of attention than we normally give it Dr. Ebraheim's educational animated video describes anatomy associated with the acetabulum. Following removal of the labrum from the model, the solid-on-solid contact stresses between the femoral and acetabular cartilage layers were greatly increased (up to 92% higher), which would increase the friction between the joint surfaces. In the absence of the labrum, the centre of contact shifted towards the acetabular rim The hip joint (see the image below) is a ball-and-socket synovial joint: the ball is the femoral head, and the socket is the acetabulum. The hip joint is the articulation of the pelvis with the femur, which connects the axial skeleton with the lower extremity

The sequence of reduction of the associated both column fractures traditionally begins with reduction of the. The hip joint is a ball and socket synovial joint, formed by an articulation between the pelvic acetabulum and the head of the femur.. It forms a connection from the lower limb to the pelvic girdle, and thus is designed for stability and weight-bearing - rather than a large range of movement.. In this article, we shall look at the anatomy of the hip joint - its articulating surfaces.

The acetabulum and the head of the femur are covered in a joint capsule, that is fixed to the acetabular lip, anteriorly at the trochanteric line and posteriorly above the intertrochanteric crest. There are two groups of ligaments that increase the stability of the hip joint : the intracapsular and the extracapsular ligaments This innovative resurfacing prosthesis is a combination of femoral cap and monobloc acetabulum. During the surgery, the femoral cap is implanted into the femur, and its counterpart, the acetabulum, anchored in the hip bone. The surfaces that will ultimately be enclosed by bone are structured to improve bone cell adherence

The acetabulum is the cup-shaped socket on the lateral aspect of the pelvis, which articulates with the head of the femur to form the hip joint. The margin of the acetabulum is deficient.. Furthermore, a previously irradiated acetabulum is always exposed to the risk of bone collapse, because it is a weight-bearing joint structure . From the viewpoint of biomechanics, the forces acting on the hip joint change their position as the femoral head moves The hip joint (also known as coxafemoral joint, acetabulofemoral joint, latin: articulatio coxae) is a ball and socket synovial joint, which is formed between the acetabulum and the head of the femur. The articulating surfaces of the hip joint are the following two Unusually for a significant joint, articular reduction of acetabular fractures is indirect. The articular surface of the hip joint is not seen directly. Reduction must be assessed by the appearance of the extraarticular fracture lines and intraoperative fluoroscopic assessment The hip is a complex ball-and-socket joint comprising the acetabulum, proximal femur, and articular cartilage. In addition, the capsulo labral tissues and surrounding muscles and tendons stabilize the hip, dictate its range of motion, and enhance its function

The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint formed by the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis. The hip joint is the most stable joint in the body and is supported by a very strong capsule and several ligaments, allowing the joint to sustain forces that can be multiple times the total body weight The acetabular labrum deepens the hip socket in a fashion that is similar to the way the glenoid labrum deepens the socket. However, in contrast with the glenoid in the glenohumeral joint, the osseous acetabulum in the hip is much deeper and provides substantial stability to the hip joint Hip joint (overview) The hip joint is a large ball and socket synovial joint between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis. It is structured in such a way that enables movement in all axes, while bearing both our summer and winter body mass and providing stability for the body during movement

The hip joint. Definition: a joint between the head of the femur and the acetabulum of the pelvis; Function. Connects the axial skeleton to the lower extremities; Supports static (e.g., standing) and dynamic (e.g., walking, running) weight; Type of joint: ball-and-socket synovial joint The joint space is clearly identified with movement of the femoral head and sometimes made more conspicuous by the presence of gas bubbles induced by examination maneuvers. The relationship of the femoral head to the acetabulum, the depth and configuration of the latter, and the position and morphology of the labrum are easily shown Overview Definitions. Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH): a spectrum of developmental disorders of the acetabulum and proximal femur, characterized by instability of the hip joint (formerly known as congenital dysplasia of the hip); Subluxation: partial loss of contact between the head of the femur and the acetabulum The acetabulum, commonly thought of as the socket of the ball-and-socket hip joint, may break in one of 10 different pattern classifications discussed in the January 2014 issue of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research Classifications in Brief.
